Shawsmead Caravan Club Site  Walks

A pleasant site, situated some 10mins drive away from New Quay, and just under 10 minutes from Aberaeron.  The site has a central grass pitching area, with hard standings off the internal circular road.  The Log cabin site facilities are situated at the end of the site, near the entrance and reception.  Not an issue unless you are not good walking.  The facilities as always on Caravan Club sites were extremely clean, and in this case modern.

The site is well looked after, and the Wardens are always friendly and helpful.  The site as most do requests no arrivals before 12:00, this is mainly due to the fact that the period before 12:00 is Wardens’ break-time just after toilet cleaning.  Please try and respect this as this is a single warden site.

Another important element prior to arrival; please ensure that you follow the Caravan Club local directions, as your Sat Nav will try and take you up some very difficult routes if you do not.  Please enter (52.19542, -4.30622) Martha Cae in Llanarth as a via point.

The wardens also provide some good information on local walks and relevant directions from the site. Some of these walks are listed below.

One of the main attractions of the Cardigan Bay area is the possibility of Dolphin Watching.  There are plenty areas where, if you are lucky, you can see Dolphins.  Try sitting on the Harbour wall in New Quay, walk out of New Quay up hill along the coastal path towards Bird’s Rock and Cwmtudu.

Or take on of the many boat trips, we took the 2 hour cruise from New Quay Boat trips and would highly recommend it.  If you can invest your time in the 2 hour trip do, the cost difference is well worth that extra chance of seeing Dolphins.  We had some really close encounters (all within the Marine Heritage Coast guidelines).

Other potential points of interest, just under 1 hours away is the home of Springwatch 2011 – the RSPB reserve of Ynys-hir in Eglwys Fach, Machynlleth.  Also see the Red Kites feeding at Nant Yr Arian around 45 mins drive.

Great local beaches, with dog friendly areas, and some lovely walks top a great location.  We only stayed a week, but next time 2 weeks would be great.
